More Than 200 Residents Took Part in a New Edition of Conociéndonos

Together with the Intendancy of Río Negro, we held a new edition of "Conociéndonos," a social tourism initiative aimed at people from small localities in the interior of the department.

The initiative aimed to create opportunities for enjoyment and integration, while facilitating access to tourism experiences and to sites of national heritage significance, such as the Museum of the Industrial Revolution – Anglo, declared a World Heritage Site, and the M'Bopicuá saladero, a National Heritage Site.

"Conociéndonos" had previously run between 2016 and 2019, during which 1,000 people from 35 small localities in Paysandú, Soriano, and Río Negro took part in this social tourism experience.

In this edition, the visits included more than 200 residents from Paso de los Mellizos, Morató, Puntas de Averías, Paso de la Cruz, Menafra, Grecco, and Colonia Kennedy. During each outing, participants toured the M'Bopicuá Logistics Terminal, the nursery, and the Montes del Plata Bioparque M'Bopicuá, as well as various points of interest in Fray Bentos, including the former Anglo meatpacking plant, the Teatro Young, and other attractions in the city. Lunch and an afternoon snack were provided throughout the tour.

Through this program, we supported an initiative that brought new experiences to communities in the interior and promoted access to spaces of cultural, historical, and tourism value in the department. In that spirit, the initiative also helped strengthen ties between localities and expand opportunities for participation in recreational activities and exploration of the territory.

Visits to the M’Bopicuá Biopark

The M’Bopicuá Biopark has been adapted to receive visits from educational institutions, primarily schools and high schools. These visits are guided by trained staff and are restricted to the months of March through August to avoid disrupting the species' reproduction.

The guided tour comprises three areas: the wildlife breeding station, an interpretive trail of the native forest, and the ruins of the “M`Bopicuá Saltworks” dating from the 19th century.
